Lunchtime #drawing: I’ve wondered about this building. It’s the former Jackson Square Branch of the NYPL at 251 West 13th Street, built in 1888 with funds provided by George W. Vanderbilt. It was designed to look like a 17th-century Dutch guild hall by Richard Morris Hunt, kind of famous for being the architect of the main entrance and facade at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This library branch closed in 1967 with the opening of the Jefferson Market Library, then had a very 1960s renovation by artist Robert Delford Brown, and finally in the mid 1990s TV writer Tom Fontana bought the building and renovated out most of the radical.
